It was intended as her second duets album with Donny Hathaway (following 1972's Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway), but Hathaway only recorded two songs with her ("You Are My Heaven" and "Back Together Again") before his suicide. Flack finished the rest of the record on her own.

Brass Construction continued to avoid the scrap heap, turning out another better-than-expected album. There were two more good singles in "Walkin' the Line" and "We Can Work It Out," and the production, arrangements, instrumental support, and vocals were all more inspired than they had been in the past.

When "Brass Construction 5" came out in 1979, one greeted the LP with skepticism. 1977's Brass Construction III was very uneven, and 1978's disappointing, uninspired Brass Construction IV was the funk-disco outfit's weakest album ever. So people didn't have very high hopes for Brass Construction's fifth album. But Randy Muller and his associates pleasantly surprised their fans with this enjoyable LP, which finds them sounding revitalized. A definite improvement over Brass Construction IV, this 1979 release boasts some of the combo's most infectious grooves since Brass Construction II.

This was the second of three solo studio albums that Hathaway released during his lifetime before his suicide in 1979. Atlantic producer Jerry Wexler took over most of the production duties, with Hathaway producing one track, the self-penned "Take a Love Song".

"The Complete Thom Bell Sessions" brings together the complete recording session by Elton John and producer Thom Bell onto one album. Released in 1989 by MCA Records, the album is composed of the material previously released in 1979 as well as the songs that were recorded at the original session but had then gone unreleased. Two of the "new" songs were co-written by John - "Nice and Slow" was co-written with Thom Bell and longtime writing partner Bernie Taupin, and "Shine on Through" with lyricist Gary Osborne. Because the recordings were shelved at the time, the latter was re-recorded and included on John's 1978 LP, "A Single Man".
